Coaching Qualifications

Open to 3rd Kyu and above (Minimum age 16) The EKF have now completed a Coaching Award Programme for instructors. The programme is similar to the programme previously produced by the EKGB and adopted by the Ishinryu Karate Association.

There are now 7 awards available:

Junior Dojo Leader

• Permitted to deal with club administrative duties.
• Minimum Age 16.
• Minimum Grade 3rd Kyu

Level 1 - Provisional Coach

• Club administration
• Work with small groups with written instructions from Club Coach
• Club Coach must be present to supervise
• Minimum Age 18
• Minimum Grade 3rd Kyu

Level 2 - Assistant Coach

• Club administration
• Take charge of group using own initiative
• Stand in for the Club Coach as needed
• Minimum Age 18
• Minimum Grade 1st Dan

Level 3 - Club Coach

• Permitted to deal with club administrative duties
• Take charge of running a club
• Plan and deliver short term individual and group training programmes
• Supervise Assistant Coaches
• Minimum Age 18
• Minimum Grade 1st Dan

Level 4 - Head Coach

• Take charge of running a club
• Plan and deliver short term individual and group training programmes
• Supervise Assistant Coaches
• Minimum Age 18
• Minimum Grade 3rd Dan

Level 5 - Chief Instructor

• Evidence of working as a Chief Instructor for an EKF member Association
• Minimum Grade 4th Dan

'S' Level - Specialist Coach

(Minimum requirements as Club Coach)

Kumite Specialist

Evidence of coaching an athlete to all of the following:

• English Champion, British Champion, European and/or WKF International.
• Evidence of attendance at EKF coaches/rules course

Kata Specialist

Evidence of coaching an athlete to all of the following:

• English Champion, British Champion, European and/or WKF International.
• Evidence of attendance at EKF kata/rules course

All applicants will be required to attend one coaching course plus one examination course (Junior Dojo Leaders only need to attend one coaching course).

Coaching Course
